Renewable rice hulls. Tan in color. One of the easiest and most effective ways to loosen and lighten up heavy soil is to integrate organic matter into it. Rice Hulls are one of the best organic alternatives to perlite that will help keep the soil’s existing pH uniform, while providing a better drainage and water retention structure to it. A ratio of 5%-20% added into new soil should do the trick!
